The Journey
Everyone's journey in the pursuit of optimal health begins differently. For some, an illness is the catalyst that ignites the spark of interest in optimizing one's health. For others, it may be a major life change such as a move, a relationship change, a job change, or simply the desire to look and feel better.
For me, good health was a thing that I took for granted for many many years. I exercised for the sake of my appearance, and ate whatever I liked, with little or no regard to the effects of my nutritional intake upon my health and well being, in spite of going throughout the process of medical training. In truth? The only formal nutritional training that I had during my years in college, medical school and residency consisted of a one term course in nutrition as a junior college student at Stanford University, and I took that course purely out of personal interest; it was not a required part of my training at any point.
During my years as a practicing physician, I have had the opportunity to be involved in the health care management of thousands of patients, many of whom have had health conditions which were at least partially causally related to their health habits and nutrition.
From a personal standpoint, as I have given birth, breast fed children and gone through the process of living, I have learned that the blessing of health is just that- a blessing.
The natural outgrowth of my professional and personal evolution has been an increasing interest in the relationship of nutrition and holistic medicine concepts on optimal human health, in conjunction with the principles of western medicine.
I invite you to join me on the journey of exploration as I share my insights, research and personal insight into the world of optimal health.
